NORTH ARMAGH MOTORCYCLE AND CAR CLUB PRESS RELEASE
5 X 5 SUPERCROSS
15TH AUGUST 2009
TANDRAGEE MOTOCROSS PARK

The North Armagh Motorcycle and Car Club are disappointed to announce the cancellation of the first ‘5X5’ Supercross which was to be held at the Tandragee Motocross Park on 15th August 2009.
The Club have been forced to cancel the event due to lack of rider entries by the closing date, making the event unviable, both financially, and in terms of competition with not enough entries for even one race.
With track modifications to be made, the Club reluctantly decided to cancel the event.  All entrants will have their fees refunded as soon as possible.

Bodytech owner, Rowley Suitor, is supporting the young Welsh star on his first appearance this year in Ireland, although Ashley does list Desertmartin as his favourite track.
With ten years racing experience behind him already, the ex PAR Homes and Molson Kawasaki rider will add a bit of flair and excitement to the event, and we look forward to seeing him in action.

PREVIOUS PRESS RELEASE - 15th July 2009

5 X 5 SUPERCROSS
15TH AUGUST 2009
TANDRAGEE MOTOCROSS PARK

The North Armagh Motorcycle and Car Club are pleased to announce the launch of the first ‘5X5’ Supercross to be held at the Tandragee Motocross Park on 15th August 2009.
As there are no British or World Championship events in Ireland in 2009, the North Armagh Motorcycle and Car Club decided to run a special one off event to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of their flagship event, the Around a Pound Tandragee 100, and the upcoming 60th Anniversary of the Club in 2010.
In an attempt to raise the profile and awareness of the sport, a unique format has been devised, where 25 riders will qualify through heats for the final, which will be run as five separate five lap sprints, at the end of each race, five riders will drop out until there are only five left.  These last five in the Grand Final will race for five laps for a winner’s cheque of £1,000, the largest single prize in Irish Motocross, second place will receive £400, third £200, fourth £100 and fifth £50.  All qualifiers will receive some prize money also.
To further increase spectator friendliness, the racing will not start until the afternoon, with the finals due to commence around 7.00pm in the evening, this will give spectators returning from the Ulster Grand Prix time to see the exciting finals, and also encourage a family friendly atmosphere.
We will also be running support races for Small Wheel 85cc machines to showcase the future of the sport, and to encourage families to get more involved with motocross. As an added incentive for the 85cc riders, all entrants will receive coaching from the top stars on Saturday morning as part of their package.
The format may not appeal to motocross purists, but we are trying to attract a family crowd, and to showcase the excitement, dynamism, colour and spectacle of the sport to people who have maybe only seen motocross or Supercross on TV, and to encourage them to come to see the real live original extreme sport.
There will be competitions for spectator’s children, candy floss, doughnuts, and other attractions for spectators, but we want the main focus to be on the race track, hence the format of the finals.
We believe the unique format, coupled with the headline prize money will attract the families, and spectator interest and spark the curiosity of the average person wanting a good afternoon’s entertainment for a £5.00 entry fee.
We believe that Motocross is the country’s best kept sporting secret, and that if people attend this event, they will be excited and surprised at the spectacle, and the athleticism, intensity, and competitiveness of the competitors at all levels.
Riders will get plenty of racing, spectators will see plenty of action, and the final sequence will build to an explosive climax as five hungry riders chase the big prize money.
We will announce more details as we near the 15th August date,, but keep this one in your dairy.
